At the take-off of this Administration, I had a well cut out approach to actualizing my goals in governance by building a team, our future, our economy, a partnership and building a 21st Century Hyper City. To build requires a collective effort and to achieving these global goals necessitate a universal call to action.

My five pillars of the THEMES Agenda are all underpinned by Education and Technology – a resonating fact that cannot be undermined in the wake of global trends. Education is the key to the future and the most powerful weapon to change the world.
This administration in our pursuit of quality service in the Education Sector, have continued to implement policies that would drive and positively impact all through valued collaborations, prioritizing public education by increasing the budgetary allocation to Education, developing new educational infrastructure to cultivate a learning environment for our pupils and students for the future work place, strengthening our teachers’ capacity by employing more teachers and exposure to continuous training as well as integrating technology.

I will be giving cars to 13 outstanding teachers and leaders in  Government Primary, Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary Schools and Technical Colleges across Lagos State as rewards for excellent performance and dedication in the discharge of duties by our exemplary teachers and leaders. I enjoin all teachers and leaders  in the State to get involved by applying via the media handles provided.

Igbega Ipinle Eko, Ajumose ni.

MR. BABAJIDE SANWOOLU.
GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE

Distilling these specific initiatives and intervention plans birthed the “BOS Education Transformation Plan”, leveraging on existing expertise, tools, partnership and resources while the plan covers Primary, Secondary Schools’ Model and Technical Colleges.
I am particularly elated as these plans and implementations are impacting positively and evidently yielding desired results that have increased the momentum witnessed across board.

The Year 2019 Best Teacher in Nigeria is from a Lagos State owned Public School, our dear Iyabo Elusakin, a teacher at Oriwu Senior Model College in Ikorodu while Pius Babobo of Government Junior College, Ketu also clinched the award as Best School Administrator in Nigeria. This is indeed no mean feat, a clear indication that we are doing things “right”.

Rewarding excellence will further promote the prestige of a profession in education by bringing to light the criticality of viewing a teaching career in high esteem and the importance of education as a critical success factor for the socioeconomic development of our emerging economy.

I have inaugurated a Nominations Committee for the purpose of rewarding excellent performances by our teachers. The Nominations Committee will work out procedures for the selection of awardees and ultimately winners of the awards through a process that would exhibit fairness, innovation and excellent standards. It shall also be through thorough and evidence-based criteria in line with the themes that encapsulate:

Mrs. Lai Koiki, the Chairperson Association of Private Educations in Nigeria also doubles as the Chairperson, Nominations Committee. Her pedigree and wealth of experience would be brought to the table at this time. She would be working with Mrs. Funke Fowler-Amba, Mrs. Abisola Obasanya, Mrs. Sherifat Atinuke Ogboye, Mrs. Yinka Ogunde, Miss. Oyindamola Egbeyemi, Mr. Bolaji Olagunju and Mr. Idris Adetutu on the Lagos State Teachers’ Merit Award 2020. These technocrats in the Education sector are to deliver on the selection process and award ceremony.
